Big Mama's has been cooking, serving
and selling southern "down home" food for over 75 years.
Big Mama ... and Her Family
Born in Burda, Georgia just outside
of Griffin 100 miles south of Atlanta, Big Mama migrated north to
Chattanooga, TN. She owned and operated restaurants in Chattanooga, TN;
Old Town Pasadena, CA; Altadena, CA; and Las Vegas, NV.
It is in Las Vegas that her son
Dargin McWhorter took over and continued her influence and personal
recipes.
Dargin first opened the doors
of Big Mama's Cooking, Inc. on March 7th, 1992 with the help of his
wife and his children. Since his opening, Dargin has overcome many
obstacles and has through long hours and hard work put Big Mama's
on the map. This is no small accomplishment since Las Vegas is one of the
top food capitals of the world; if not the finest.
Big Mama's is a family owned and
operated restaurant that attracts many celebrities and locals because
of its unique dining experience and sumptuous food. It is true "down
home" Southern Food prepared with careful attention to the tradition
and love handed down in Big Mama's fantastic original personal recipes.
Big Mama's is a five time winner of
Las Vegas Review-Journal's "Best of Las Vegas" award as well
as a three time winner in the Sunset Park Rib Burnoff. In addition,
the restaurant has won "Best Southern Food" and "Best Barbeque
2000."
Plans for the future are to package and
market Big Mama's treasured recipes and Brand name through the Internet. Soon
you'll be able to order Big Mama's BBQ Sauce online and also other
products that Big Mama's has become famous for. Those who knew Big
Mama remember her famous saying "Honey! If the Colonel could have
fried chicken like Big Mama, he would've been a General!"
